What Are You Wearing Today?

Today's Word of Wonder: Intention
The Scripture Spotlight for Today
"Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh."
— Romans 13:14 (NIV)
The Devotion: Dressing for Transformation
Imagine preparing for an important event—a wedding, a job interview, or a major presentation. You choose your clothes carefully because your attire affects not only how you look but how you feel and how you act. Your clothing sets the tone.
Today’s WOW scripture uses this powerful image of clothing to describe our spiritual and moral preparation for the day. Paul doesn't say, "Try to imitate Jesus." He says, "Clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ."
This is more than imitation; it’s putting on His very nature as a daily act of intention. When you get dressed each morning, you are making a conscious choice: Will you wear the old, worn-out garments of your natural self—the clothes stained by impatience, anxiety, selfishness, and doubt? Or will you put on the mind, heart, and actions of Christ?
The second part of the verse is the critical warning: "and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh." Paul understands that the battle is won not just by putting on the right thing, but by consciously rejecting the wrong thing. When you dress yourself in Christ, you remove the space and the planning for those old, negative habits. You choose to fill your thoughts with the "more excellent way."
A WOW Moment is realizing that your spiritual transformation is a daily wardrobe change. You have the power to put on kindness (from our Ephesians 4:32 study), hope (from Romans 5:5), and joy (from Psalm 16:11). Today, choose your clothes wisely.
Wonder Prompt (Actionable Reflection)
Think about the outfit you are physically wearing right now. What does it communicate about your intention for the day?
- Now, identify one "article of clothing" you need to consciously put on today (e.g., patience for a difficult task, generosity with your time, or forgiveness toward a difficult person).
- Declare it: Before you start your next task, say out loud, "Today, I am putting on the garment of [Patience/Generosity/Forgiveness] in Christ."
