Today's Word of Wonder: Continual
The Scripture Spotlight for Today
"I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips."
— Psalm 34:1 (NIV)
The Devotion: Breaking the "Condition" of Praise
Most of us have "Conditional Praise." If the traffic is light, we praise God. If the doctor's report is good, we praise God. If the coffee is hot, we praise God. But David, the author of this Psalm, wrote these words while he was literally running for his life, hiding in a cave, and pretending to be insane to escape an enemy king.
David’s praise wasn't based on his situation; it was based on his Source.
The WOW Moment today is the realization that praise is a Continual habit, not a seasonal one. When the verse says "His praise will always be on my lips," it implies that praise is the "filter" through which all our other words pass.
When you choose to praise God "at all times," you aren't ignoring your reality; you are inviting a higher reality into your space. Praise shifts the atmosphere of your heart. It’s hard for anxiety to live in a mouth that is busy declaring the goodness of God. By making praise a "permanent" fixture on your lips, you ensure that no matter what the day throws at you, you are already standing on the solid rock of His faithfulness.
Wonder Prompt (Actionable Reflection)
What is the "weather" of your heart today? Is it cloudy? Stormy?
- Action: Practice "Volitional Praise." For the next hour, every time you check your watch or your phone, whisper a quick "Thank You, Lord, for [Insert Attribute—e.g., Your faithfulness/Your peace]."
- Observation: Notice if the "internal weather" of your heart begins to clear as your lips prioritize His praise.
- Prayer: "Lord, I choose to extol You today—not just when things go my way, but because of Who You are. May Your praise be the first thing on my lips this morning and the last thing I whisper tonight. Amen."
