Today's Word of Wonder: Renewed

The Scripture Spotlight for Today

"But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."— Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

The Devotion: Finding Your Second Wind

By Wednesday, the "new week" smell has often worn off. The adrenaline of Monday is gone, the to-do list from Tuesday is still staring us down, and the weekend feels just a little too far away. We start to feel the "weary" and the "faint" that Isaiah mentions.

But notice the beautiful mechanics of this verse. It doesn't say, "Those who try harder will get more done." It says those who hope (or wait) in the Lord will renew their strength.

In the original Hebrew, the word for "renew" actually means "to exchange." Imagine walking up to a counter with a heavy, tattered, empty bag of your own limited energy and swapping it for a fresh, limitless supply of God's power. It’s a Great Exchange.

The WOW Moment today is realizing that God doesn't want you to just "push through" on your own steam. He invites you to catch a spiritual "thermal"—just like an eagle does. An eagle doesn't reach great heights by flapping its wings harder than every other bird; it reaches them by finding the rising currents of air and stretching out its wings to let the wind do the work.

When we hope in Him, we are stretching out our wings. We are saying, "Lord, I can't flap any harder today. I’m trusting Your Spirit to lift me up." When we do that, we don't just survive the week; we soar over the obstacles.

Wonder Prompt (Actionable Reflection)

Identify the "weight" that is making you feel weary this Wednesday. Is it a project? A worry? Physical tiredness?

  • Action: Stop what you are doing for two minutes. Close your eyes and visualize yourself handing that weight to Jesus. Mentally "exchange" it for His peace.

  • Prayer: "Lord, I am tired of flapping my wings in my own strength. Right now, I choose to hope in You. Renew my strength. Give me Your perspective so I can soar above my circumstances today."
