Today's Word of Wonder: Capability
The Scripture Spotlight for Today
"I can do all this through him who gives me strength."
— Philippians 4:13 (NIV)
The Devotion: The Secret to Sufficiency
When we face a daunting task—whether it's overcoming an addiction, enduring a season of grief, raising difficult children, or simply meeting a seemingly impossible deadline—our natural tendency is to immediately gauge our own resources. Do I have enough willpower? Do I have enough talent? Do I have enough time? If we don't, fear and anxiety quickly set in.
The Apostle Paul, writing this powerful statement, was a master of context. He wasn't talking about winning a sports championship; he was talking about managing extreme opposites—knowing how to be content when hungry and when full, when in poverty and when in abundance. His message is one of ultimate Capability in any circumstance.
This verse is often misquoted as a motivational slogan, but its power lies not in "I can," but in "through him."
The WOW Moment is realizing that your ability to "do all things" is not an inherent trait you manufacture; it is a limitless gift you receive. This verse means you have the power to:
- Endure the unendurable.
- Forgive the unforgivable.
- Find Rest (Philippians 4:7) when chaos surrounds you.
- Practice Devotion (Deuteronomy 6:5) even when you are weary.
The strength is not yours to generate, but God's to supply. Today, you are fully equipped for every challenge, not because you are powerful, but because you are Empowered (John 20:22).
Wonder Prompt (Actionable Reflection)
What is one task or challenge you are currently avoiding because you feel inadequate or too weak to handle it?
- Take a moment to write that challenge down.
- Now, declare this verse over it: "I can do this through him who gives me strength."
- How does consciously acknowledging the Universal Power Source change your approach to your next step?
