The Devotion: More Than a Flip of a Switch

Light is the fastest thing in the universe, traveling at approximately 299,792 kilometers per second. It is both a wave and a particle. It carries energy, heat, and information. Without it, life as we know it would cease to exist in minutes. Yet, we treat it as a utility—something we pay a bill for once a month.

But the spiritual "WOW" is that light was God’s very first command: "Let there be light." The WOW Moment today is realizing that light is the condition for Being. You cannot see the Vine unless there is light. You cannot produce Fruit without the energy of light. When Jesus calls Himself the "Light of the World," He isn't just saying He’s a good teacher; He’s saying He is the very environment that makes life possible.

Light doesn't make things exist; it simply reveals that they are already there. God’s grace is often like that lamp in the corner—it’s been shining the whole time, but we only notice the miracle when we stop to look at what it’s revealing. Today, the miracle isn't that the sun came up; it’s that the Son is up, and He is illuminating every step of your Friday.

Take a moment to look around the room you are in right now.

• Action: Find one spot where the light hits an object—a shadow on the wall, the glare on your screen, or the glow of a lamp. Contemplate that for 30 seconds. Think: "God is the Light that makes this visible."

• Shift: Notice how the room feels "heavier" when you focus on the shadows, but "lighter" when you focus on the source of the glow.

• Prayer: "Lord, thank You for the miracle of sight and the gift of light. Thank You that no matter how dark a situation feels, Your light is faster and stronger. Shine into the corners of my heart today and lead me in the light of life. Amen."
