Today's Word of Wonder: Preparation
The Scripture Spotlight for Today
"Therefore I am now going to allure her; I will lead her into the wilderness and speak tenderly to her."
— Hosea 2:14 (NIV)
The Devotion: The Allure of the Empty
We usually spend our lives trying to avoid the wilderness. We want the "Promised Land"—the milk, the honey, the results. But notice the language God uses in Hosea: He says He will allure us into the wilderness. He isn't dragging us there as a timeout; He is inviting us there for a tryst.
The WOW Moment today is realizing that the wilderness is the only place quiet enough to hear God's whisper.
Preparation is the "Wilderness-Work" of the soul. In the desert, you can't rely on your old rhythms or your own strength. You have to rely on the Manna. You have to look up. If you find yourself in a season that feels empty or dry, consider that God has cleared the schedule so He can have your undivided attention. He isn't punishing you; He is preparing you for the "Great Thing" that lies on the other side of the sands.
Wonder Prompt (Actionable Reflection)
Identify one thing that makes your current season feel like a "wilderness."
- Action: Instead of asking God to "get you out" of it today, ask Him: "Lord, what are You speaking tenderly to me right now?" Sit in silence for two minutes and just listen.
- Shift: Notice how the desert feels less scary when you realize the Creator of the stars is your traveling companion.
- Prayer: "Lord, thank You for the wilderness. I admit I usually try to run away from the dry places, but today I choose to stay and listen. Speak tenderly to my heart and prepare me for what is next. Amen."
