Today's Word of Wonder: Outflow
The Scripture Spotlight for Today
"We love because he first loved us."— 1 John 4:19 (NIV)
The Devotion: The Love of the First Fruits
In the list of the Fruit of the Spirit, Love comes first for a reason. It is the soil, the water, and the sun. But so many of us treat love as an exhausting "output." We spend our days trying to generate enough warmth to be kind to people who are cold, or enough grace to forgive people who are harsh.
But 1 John 4:19 gives us the "Math of the Spirit": Our love is always a reaction.
The WOW Moment today is realizing that you are not the source of love; you are the conduit. If you are struggling to love someone today, the answer isn't to "try harder." The answer is to go back and realize how much you are "first loved" by God. When you are deeply aware of His unconditional, messy, overwhelming love for you, it creates an Outflow. It’s like a cup that sits under a running faucet—the cup doesn't "try" to spill over; it just happens because the supply is greater than the capacity.
Today, your mission isn't to "do" love. Your mission is to be loved. Sit in the truth of His affection for you until it starts to leak out onto the people around you.
Wonder Prompt (Actionable Reflection)
Think of a situation today where you feel "dry"—where you don't have enough love to give.
- Action: Stop trying to give. Instead, take 5 minutes to list 3 ways God has shown you love this week (a answered prayer, a moment of peace, the gift of breath).
- Shift: Watch how, as you fill your heart with His "First Love," the pressure to "manufacture" your own love disappears.
- Prayer: "Father, thank You for loving me first. I stop trying to be the source today. I open my heart to receive Your affection, Your grace, and Your kindness. Let it overflow from me to everyone I meet. Amen."
