Today's Word of Wonder: Appreciation
The Scripture Spotlight for Today
"Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."— 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV)
The Devotion: The Atmosphere of the Soul
Scientists tell us that the brain cannot feel anxiety and gratitude at the same exact time. They are biologically incompatible. In the spiritual realm, it’s the same way. Gratitude is the atmosphere in which faith breathes best.
The WOW Moment today is realizing that gratitude is a willful choice, not a fleeting feeling.
Notice that Paul doesn't say give thanks for all circumstances, but in them. Appreciation is the "Heart-Work" of finding the "Ordinary Miracle" even when the day is difficult. When we give thanks, we are essentially saying, "Lord, I trust that You are bigger than this situation." Gratitude shifts our "Being" from a state of lack to a state of abundance. It turns what we have into "enough," and more. Today, as you worship, let your "Thank You" be your loudest song.
Wonder Prompt (Actionable Reflection)
Today, conduct a "Gratitude Inventory."
- Action: Grab a piece of paper or open a note on your phone. Write down 10 things that went "right" in the last 48 hours. Include the tiny things: a green light, a warm shower, a kind word from a stranger.
- Shift: Notice how the "weight" of your worries seems to shrink as your list of blessings grows.
- Prayer: "Lord, thank You for the countless mercies I often overlook. I choose to be thankful in all things today. Transform my heart into a dwelling place of gratitude and praise. Amen."
