Today's Word of Wonder: Refinement

The Scripture Spotlight for Today

"He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful." — John 15:2 (NIV)

The Devotion: The Courage to Correct

In a garden, "deadheading" or pruning isn't an act of anger; it’s an act of care. If a gardener leaves dead branches on a rosebush, the plant wastes precious energy trying to "fix" what is already gone. Refinement is the spiritual process of identifying what is no longer serving your growth and allowing the Holy Spirit to remove it.

The WOW Moment today is realizing that Pruning is a Sign of Life.

The Gardener only prunes the branches that are bearing fruit. If you feel the "pinch" of correction today—if you feel a nudge to apologize, to change a habit, or to let go of a grudge—it’s because you are alive and fruitful! It takes courage to say, "Lord, have Your way with the shears." Today, the miracle in the ordinary is the grace that comes after the cut—the surge of new energy that happens when you stop carrying what was never meant to stay.

Wonder Prompt (Actionable Reflection)

Today, practice The Pruning Prayer.

  • Action: Sit quietly for 2 minutes with your hands open. Ask the Spirit: "What is one thing draining my energy that needs to be pruned?" When you identify it, imagine yourself handing it over.

  • Shift: Notice the feeling of "lightness" that comes when you stop trying to keep a dead branch alive.

  • Prayer: "Lord, I trust Your shears. I give You permission to prune anything in my life that is keeping me from Your best. Thank You for loving me enough to refine me. Amen."
