The Highest Value Real Estate

The Scripture Spotlight for Today
"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God, and that you are not your own?"
— 1 Corinthians 6:19 (NIV)
The Devotion: Where God Dwells Now
In ancient times, a temple was the holiest place—a sacred dwelling reserved for God, where worship and reverence were mandatory. It dictated how people acted, how they dressed (Romans 13:14), and what they allowed inside.
Today's WOW scripture delivers a radical shift in geography: You are the temple.
Paul asks a rhetorical question that leads to an absolute truth: your body, your mind, your energy, and your heart are the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. This single fact should change everything about how you perceive yourself and manage your life.
This reality establishes your intrinsic, eternal Value. You are not just a random collection of cells; you are the highest value real estate in the universe, sanctified by the presence of God Himself.
The final phrase reinforces the point: "...and that you are not your own." This challenges the modern impulse toward absolute self-ownership. Since you belong to God (He purchased you), the ultimate act of Devotion (Deuteronomy 6:5) is treating your body and mind with the dignity, care, and reverence (Psalm 111:10) appropriate for a dwelling of the Spirit. This includes what you consume, what you allow your eyes to see, and how you manage your stress and rest (Psalm 37:7).
A WOW Moment is realizing that respect for yourself is respect for the presence of God within you. Live today not according to your fleeting impulses, but according to the sacred Value of the one who dwells inside.
Wonder Prompt (Actionable Reflection)
If you had to treat your body and mind like a sacred temple for the next 24 hours, what is one thing you would immediately stop allowing in (e.g., negative self-talk, constant worry, excessive scrolling)?
- Commit to protecting the sanctity of the "temple" today.
- Use this thought as a daily filter: "Does this action honor the one who dwells within me?"
