Today's Word of Wonder: Foresight

The Scripture Spotlight for Today

"So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, 'On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.'"— Genesis 22:14 (NIV)

The Devotion: Provision Before the Petition

The name Jehovah Jireh first appears in one of the most stressful moments in scripture—when Abraham was asked to sacrifice his son. Just as Abraham raised the knife, God provided a ram in the thicket.

But here is the "WOW" moment: The ram didn't just appear out of thin air at the last second. That ram had to grow up, walk up the other side of the mountain, and get its horns caught in the brush before Abraham even realized he needed it.

God’s Foresight is your security. Jireh comes from the Hebrew root ra’ah, which means "to see." To God, "providing" and "seeing" are the same thing. Because He sees your tomorrow, He is already providing for it today.

When you are "Being" in Christ, you realize that you aren't a self-made person. You are a child of the Provider. You don't have to "do" more to get God to notice your needs; He already saw them from the mountaintop before you even entered the valley. Today, you can breathe. The ram is already in the thicket.

Wonder Prompt (Actionable Reflection)

What is the "What If" that is keeping you awake or making you anxious today?

  • Action: Take that specific worry and label it: "Jehovah Jireh has seen to this." Physically open your hands in your lap for one minute as a sign that you are receiving His provision rather than grasping for your own.

  • Shift: Notice how your perspective changes when you realize you aren't the "Source" of your life—He is.

  • Prayer: "Jehovah Jireh, I thank You that You see my needs before I even speak them. Forgive me for striving in my own strength. Today, I trust in Your foresight and Your faithful hand. Amen."
