Today's Word of Wonder: Accessible

The Scripture Spotlight for Today

"God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us."
— Acts 17:27 (NIV)

The Devotion: The Purpose of Our Longing

The Apostle Paul delivered this message on Mars Hill in Athens, surrounded by philosophers and people seeking answers about the divine. He wasn't talking to people who were necessarily "religious," but to those who were searching, longing, and reaching out for something more.

Today's WOW scripture answers the universal human question: Why are we searching?

The verse makes it clear that our longing, our spiritual thirst (Psalm 63:1), and our deep drive for Purpose (Jeremiah 29:11) are not random side effects of evolution; they are God-given mechanisms designed to lead us directly to Him.

God created the world, ordered history, and structured our lives with one Intention (Jeremiah 29:11): so that we would seek Him.

The WOW Moment is contained in the simple, yet profound, last phrase: "...though he is not far from any one of us."

We often treat God as if He is distant—behind a fortress, up a mountain, or only accessible through complex rituals. But the truth is, the search is only necessary because we are often looking in the wrong places. God is incredibly Accessible—near to us in every moment, in every circumstance, and in every struggle. We don't need a map to find Him; we only need to "reach out" in faith, knowing that the One we seek is closer than our own breath (John 20:22).

Wonder Prompt (Actionable Reflection)

Think of a time this week when you felt spiritually distant, lonely, or confused.

  • In that moment, were you reaching out to God, or were you reaching for a distraction (like scrolling, worrying, or complaining)?

  • Action: For the next hour, consciously acknowledge that God is "not far." Use that feeling of nearness to guide your thoughts, knowing that if you simply reach out, you will find Him Accessible right where you are.
