Today's Word of Wonder: Release

The Scripture Spotlight for Today

"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!"— Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)

The Devotion: The Grip of the Soul

The Israelites actually missed Egypt because they remembered the food but forgot the brick-making. In the wilderness, our brains can play tricks on us, making the past look safer than it actually was. Release is the spiritual discipline of loosening our grip on what we think we "need" so God can give us what He has prepared.

The WOW Moment today is realizing that "Empty" isn't a lack; it's a Capacity.

Surrender is the "Wilderness-Work" of vulnerability. We hold onto the past because it’s familiar. But God is a God of the Now. He is doing a "new thing" right under your feet. If your heart is crowded with "what used to be," you won't perceive the "what is." Today, the miracle in the ordinary is the sudden lightness you feel when you finally stop trying to manage a version of your life that no longer exists.

Wonder Prompt (Actionable Reflection)

Today, practice "The Hands-Open Prayer."

  • Action: Sit for one minute with your hands clenched into tight fists. Notice the tension in your arms. Now, slowly open your palms and face them upward. Say: "Lord, I let go of the former things. My hands are open to Your new thing."

  • Shift: Notice how the physical release of your hands signals a spiritual release in your heart.

  • Prayer: "Lord, thank You for the new thing You are doing. Help me to stop dwelling on the past and to trust that Your path forward is full of life. I surrender my 'Egypt' to You today. Amen."
