The Divine Haul-Away

Today's Word of Wonder: Renovation
The Scripture Spotlight for Today
"You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires... and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness." — Ephesians 4:22-24 (NIV)
The Devotion: Clearing the Rubble
In civil engineering, site preparation is everything. If you try to pour a concrete foundation over loose, uncompacted rubble, the foundation will crack and give way under pressure. Renovation of the heart follows the same principle. We cannot build a life of joy and spiritual power on top of unconfessed sin, old bitterness, or the emotional debris of our "former way of life."
The WOW Moment today is realizing that The Holy Spirit is the Heavy Machinery.
We often try to clean up our own lives with a tiny broom and dustpan, getting exhausted by the scale of our own messes. But "putting off the old self" isn't a willpower contest; it’s an act of surrender. It's stepping back and allowing the Spirit to excavate the deeply buried junk we’ve carried for years. Today, the miracle in the ordinary is the pure weightlessness that comes when you stop hoarding the rubble and let the Master Architect clear the site.
Wonder Prompt (Actionable Reflection)
Today, practice The Haul-Away Hand-Off.
- Action: Physically take out your trash today—whether it's at home or at the office. As you drop the bag into the bin, pause and say in your heart: "Lord, just like this trash, I put off [name a specific habit or worry] today. Haul it away."
- Shift: Notice the mental space that opens up when you actively decide to stop living on top of old debris.
- Prayer: "Lord, thank You for the grace of a clean slate. I invite Your Holy Spirit into the messy corners of my life today. Help me to clear the rubble of my past so that You can build a firm, unshakeable structure of righteousness in my heart. Amen."
