Today's Word of Wonder: Awareness

The Scripture Spotlight for Today

"There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush... God called to him from within the bush, 'Moses! Moses!' ... 'Do not come any closer,' God said. 'Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.'"— Exodus 3:2, 4-5 (NIV)

The Devotion: Common Dirt, Divine Presence

We love the story of the Burning Bush. But we often forget what Moses was doing when it happened. He wasn't fasting on a spiritual retreat. He wasn't praying in a temple. He was working. He was leading a flock of sheep across the desert—a job he had done thousands of times before. It was a Monday morning for Moses.

The bush itself was likely a common acacia shrub—thorny, dry, and everywhere in the desert. It was nothing special. But that is exactly the point. God loves to inhabit the Ordinary.

The WOW Moment today is realizing that "Holy Ground" isn't about the quality of the dirt; it's about the Awareness of the Presence. The ground didn't change; Moses’ eyes did. The place where you are standing right now—amidst the emails, the dirty dishes, or the spreadsheets—is Holy Ground simply because God is with you. The miracle isn't escaping your daily life to find God; it's opening your eyes to see Him burning brightly within it.

Wonder Prompt (Actionable Reflection)

Look at the most "boring" or "mundane" task on your to-do list for today (e.g., folding laundry, data entry, driving).

  • Action: Before you start that task, treat it like a burning bush. Whisper: "Lord, I invite You into this task. I take off my spiritual sandals. Be present in this work."

  • Shift: Notice how the drudgery fades when you realize you aren't just "working"—you are worshiping on holy ground.

  • Prayer: "Lord, thank You that I don't need a cathedral to find You. You are here, in the middle of my Monday. Open my eyes to see Your glory in the ordinary moments of my day. Amen."
