Today's Word of Wonder: Contentment
The Scripture Spotlight for Today
“4 Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: 6 He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun. 7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes... 11 But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace and prosperity.”— Psalm 37:4-7, 11 (NIV)
The Devotion: Finding Peace in the Pause
If the world had a motto, it would likely be: "Hurry up and worry." We are constantly told to hustle, strive, and fret over the success of others, leaving us tired and deeply anxious.
Today’s WOW scripture offers a radical alternative: restful living. It gives us a four-part process that leads directly to Contentment and true Prosperity (Joshua 1:8).
- Delight (Verse 4): This is the foundation. It's not a command to beg, but to enjoy Him. When God is the source of your deepest joy, your heart’s desires—your "wants"—begin to align perfectly with His will.
- Commit (Verse 5): This requires intentional action—handing your plans, your timeline, and your effort over to God. This is the Devotion (Deuteronomy 6:5) that releases your need for absolute control.
- Trust (Verse 5): This is the quiet confidence that God will actually do what He promised. It's the belief that His timetable and His method are always better than yours.
- Be Still and Wait (Verse 7): This is the hardest part. The command to "Be still before the Lord" is an active choice to stop striving and comparing. It is an act of Conviction (Mark 11:22-23) that tells your anxious mind, "I will not fret over the success of others; I will trust my God."
The WOW Moment is found in the promise of verse 11: "The meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace and prosperity." The path to great peace is not found in the hustle; it's found in the stillness that comes from trusting God to vindicate and provide for you in His perfect timing.
Wonder Prompt (Actionable Reflection)
Look at your plans for the next week. Which specific goal or outcome are you currently trying to force through sheer willpower?
- Take a moment to verbally Commit that goal to the Lord.
- Now, practice Stillness. Set a timer for three minutes. Close your eyes and breathe, telling yourself, "I am still before the Lord, and I wait patiently for Him." How does this physical pause affect your desire to control the outcome?
