Today's Word of Wonder: Conviction
The Scripture Spotlight for Today
“Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.”
— Mark 11:22-23 (NIV)
The Devotion: The Command for Radical Faith
We all face mountains in our lives—those immovable obstacles that block our view, challenge our hope, and seem absolutely impossible to overcome. It could be chronic debt, a broken relationship, a persistent fear, or a challenging diagnosis. These are the things we pray about, but secretly believe we must simply endure.
But today's WOW scripture offers one of the most direct, practical, and radical commands in the entire Bible: Say to the mountain.
Jesus is telling us that the power to move obstacles isn't found in our sheer effort, our positive thinking, or our emotional intensity; it's found in simple, undiluted Conviction. Notice the two necessary steps:
- The Command is Verbal: We must say it. Faith is meant to be spoken and declared, not just thought. We must declare our Capability (Philippians 4:13) over the challenge.
- The Heart Must Be Undivided: We must "not doubt in their heart but believe that what they say will happen." This is the key. The power isn't in the size of the mountain; it's in the quality of the belief.
A WOW Moment is realizing that many of us pray to God about the mountain, but Jesus commanded us to speak to the mountain itself. This shift in address is a demonstration of Reverence (Psalm 111:10), showing we truly believe the God we serve has equipped us to use His power. Don't whisper your request; command the impossible to move in His name.
Wonder Prompt (Actionable Reflection)
Identify one "mountain"—one seemingly immovable obstacle—that is blocking your path right now.
- Write down the name of the mountain (e.g., "Fear of Failure," "Unforgiveness," "Chronic Worry").
- Say this out loud three times today, commanding your mountain to move: "Mountain of [Name], in the name of Jesus, I command you to be removed and cast into the sea! I do not doubt in my heart."
